ORCID
Open Researcher and Contributor ID, or ORCID ID, is a persistent and unique identifier researchers can use to distinguish themselves from others when engaging in research and scholarship. It’s a 16-digit identifier that’s free to create and links professional information, affiliations, grants, and publications. Many publishers, funders, and researcher institutions will ask for a persistent digital identifier as part of the Nelson Memo.
ORCID helps ensure researcher control as it can be used throughout your career, and you control the visibility of your contributions.
Creating an ORCID ID
Check on the ORCID website to see if you already have an ORCID ID. To do this, go to the search box in the top right of the ORCID page. The default search is the ORCID Registry.
Register for an ORCID ID by following the steps on the ORCID website. Once you have created your ORCID account, you can develop your ORCID profile.
Adding Works to my ORCID Profile
The recommended way to import publications from other databases to your ORCID account is using a search and link tool.
If your research works are in a system that has not yet built a connection with ORCID, they can still be imported using BibTex files.
Finally, there is also an option to manually add works to your ORCID account.
Getting More Assistance with ORCID
